What are the stages of liver cirrhosis?
There are four stages of this condition.
Stage 1 cirrhosis means hepatic scarring, but with a few symptoms. This stage is considered as compensated liver cirrhosis, where complications are not present.
Stage 2 cirrhosis includes the aggravation of portal hypertension and varicose vein growth.
Stage 3 cirrhosis includes the risk of advanced hepatic scarring and abdominal swelling. This stage suggests decompensated cirrhosis with severe complications and probable liver failure.
Stage 4 cirrhosis is also known as end-stage liver disease (ESLD). It can be life-threatening and can prove fatal without a transplant.
