What are the common symptoms of liver cirrhosis?
The symptoms of cirrhosis develop because the liver is unable to cleanse the blood, break down contaminants, create clotting proteins, and help absorb fats and fat-soluble vitamins. Signs of liver damage often do not occur until the disease has progressed to advanced stages. These may include:
- Yellow discoloration of the skin
- Decreased appetite
- Nose bleeds
- Small spider-shaped arteries underneath the skin
- Anorexia
- Weight loss
- Weakness
- Skin itchiness
More severe symptoms include:
- Difficulty thinking clearly
- Ascites (abdominal swelling)
- Dependent edema in the legs
- Impotence
- Gynecomastia
