Other causes of kidney failure
- Kidney failure can be due to some other causes, such as;
- Kidney infections
- A large blood clot in or around your kidneys
- Drugs and alcohol
- An overload of toxins from heavy metals
- Vasculitis – Inflammation of blood vessels
- Hemolytic uremic syndrome – A condition that develops following a bacterial infection and involves the breakdown of red blood cells
- Glomerulonephritis – Inflammation of the blood vessels of the kidneys
- Lupus – An autoimmune disease that causes inflammation of the kidneys and other body organs
- Thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura – A blood clotting disorder that damages the small vessels in the kidneys
- Multiple myeloma – A cancerous condition of the plasma cells in your bone marrow
- Scleroderma – An autoimmune condition of the skin that also affects your kidneys
- Uncontrolled diabetes
- Dyes used in some imaging tests
- Chemotherapy drugs
- Certain antibiotics
