Alcoholic Liver Cirrhosis Diagnosis
Physicians may diagnose alcoholic liver cirrhosis by taking a medical history and doing a physical exam of a person.
A doctor can also perform several blood or imaging tests which can validate a diagnosis of cirrhosis. These results of these tests may show:
- High blood ammonia level
- Anemia (low blood levels due to too little iron)
- High blood sugar levels
- Biopsy showing unhealthy liver tissue
- Leukocytosis (large amount of white blood cells)
- Portal hypertension
- Low blood sodium levels
- Low blood magnesium levels
- Low blood potassium levels
